$100 Million: You’ve Come A Long Way Mightycause!

This week Mightycause reached a major milestone, $100 million in charitable giving. More than half of this incredible sum came in the past nine months.

To celebrate Mightycause is hosting a special sweepstakes for 100 people like you to win up to $2,500 for your favorite nonprofit. But first, let’s discuss how Mightycause got to $100 million.

How Mightycause Did It

As a consultant who has been here for this meteoric rise, it’s been incredible to watch. I first started working with Mightycause on an almost full time basis in April of 2011. At that time, the company was at roughly $40 million in donation after more than three years of business.

In June of 2011, we launched an aggressive social media and guerilla marketing plan that included developing this blog, hiring community manager Ifdy Perez, creating a mobile version of the giving platform, and creating a giving day program that included starting Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington.

Last Fall, Mightycause CEO Lesley Mansford came on board, and turbocharged the marketing along with CMO Karen Schulman. Advertising, PR and email promotions, the luxury of real marketing organizations, were immediately put into place. We appeared in the Wall Street Journal as the low cost platform for giving. Lesley got Mightycause into TED (the big one), and on and on.

During that period our giving day program (which I have been blessed to help lead) created great spikes in momentum. More than a dozen giving days have created surges of giving that benefited local and topical communities with millions of dollars while simultaneously introducing scores, hundreds, even thousands of nonprofits to the Mightycause social fundraising platform.

Mightycause also hosted the Boston Marathon, which totaled more than $1.2 million for the 2012 race. There were also thousands of big-hearted individuals and nonprofits who grew moustaches, biked scores of miles, ran marathons, walked, got tattoos, and all sorts of crazy things to support their favorite cause on the social fundraising platform.

Now hundreds of thousands of people have donated to more than 14,000 nonprofits on the Mightycause platform. From preserving wildlife and national parks, to providing shelter for the homeless and emergency relief during natural disasters, hundreds of notable causes have used Mightycause to help their communities.

With the amount of giving days that have signed on for this Fall and 2013, and increased cause marketing activities from brands on the platform, Mightycause is looking at even more momentum over the next year (fingers crossed).

Thank you, Mightycause, for letting me be a part of this incredible, meteoric growth! Now… On with the fun!
