9/11: A Day of Service and Remembrance

Today marks the 11^th year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center buildings in New York City and Pentagon in Washington, DC. Since then, our communities have been building each other up by serving our neighbors affected by this tragedy.

 

Here at the Inspiring Generosity community, we’d like to encourage you to do something today as part of the National Day of Service and Remembrance. Below are organizations you can donate money to, but also consider donating your time to serve in your community!

Community Building

• — The 9/11 Movement is a growing community of people who want to perform good deeds on this day and promote good deeds in communities around the world. The domino effect is inspiring, and I encourage you to pledge your action today.
• —  For Action Initiative started out as the Families of September 11^th, and now educates about the effects of terrorism across the world in effort to inspire young people to take action against terrorism.

Honoring the Heroes

• — The 9/11 Memorial and Museum honors the victims who lost their lives at the World Trade Center attacks on September 11^th, 2001. Both sites are a must-see if you’re visiting the city.
• — The National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial specifically honors victims and families of the Pentagon attack in Washington, DC.

Support for Families of Victims 

• — Tuesday’s Children has been helping individuals affected by the September 11^th attacks through various forms of service, including mental health support. Not only do they serve people in the U.S., they also have programs reaching out to children across the globe that have lost a loved one in a terrorist attack.
• — National Fallen Firefighters Foundation supports the families of firefighters killed in the line of duty. They are specifically helping victims of 9/11 through their Memorial Stair Climb fundraisers across the nation.
• — The Leary Firefighters Foundation helps get the best equipment and training to our firefighters. If you’re in the New York City area, check out their website for info on the 9/11 memorial services taking place at the Upper West Side this morning.
• — Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) is a national organization helping families left behind by police officers who’ve sacrificed their lives for their communities. C.O.P.S. hosts many events and fundraisers throughout the year to keep awareness of this cause alive.
